Critical Bridge Inspections
Fracture Critical Bridge Inspections and Scour Analysis of Local System Bridge scopeNDOR: Kirkham Michael was selected by the Nebraska Department of Roads (NDOR) to perform an “arm’s length” inspection of 279 fracture critical bridges in eight northeastern Nebraska counties including Antelope, Boone, Cuming, Madison, Pierce, Stanton, Thurston, and Wayne.
KDOT: Kirkham Michael was retained by the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) for a statewide effort to update the local roads bridge inventory database. Kirkham Michael’s contract covered 22 counties in northwest Kansas with nearly 3,600 total bridges.
ImplementationEach of the projects were divided into two phases. Phase I was a photo documentation of each of the fracture- and scour-critical bridges to identify needed repairs. Phase II included the fracture critical inspection and load rating of each of the bridges in accordance with NDOR and KDOT Fracture Critical Inspection Procedures and the National Bridge Inspection Standards.
ResultsBrings NDOR and KDOT into compliance with Federal regulations.
